St Basil's Cathedral

Processing this image was a little bit strange for me.

It’s such a beautiful cathedral, full of vibrant colours, that to change it to black and white and lose the reds, greens and yellows of the domes just seemed like the wrong thing to do. However, the image just would not work in colour. The movement of the clouds and the light of day this was shot in meant that black and white simply made the image a lot more powerful.

I think I knew at the time of taking it that I would ultimately process it in this way, however. It was one of those shots where you get the feeling for how you will work on it as you are shooting it, though no matter how much I feel it was the right decision there is still a little part of me that thinks it is a shame to have done so.
