“And I am bored to death with it. Bored to death with this place, bored to death with my life, bored to death with myself.”
This quote from Bleak House by Charles Dickens is pretty apt, considering these houses are located at the edge of a cliff at Beachy Head, the number 3 suicide hot spot in the world.
When I took this image it was blue hour, and the sky was full of blue hues and a soft glow. However, this didn’t feel right to me while processing, and I couldn’t put my finger on what was needed. I attempted to convert the image to black and white and this immediately became more powerful. However that also meant I lost the light coming out of the windows – which I wanted to keep to some degree.
I decided then to simply reduce the opacity on the black and white layer to let a little bit of colour shine through, and that’s when the title of the post came to me.
