I loved the hutongs in Beijing; they were full of glimpses into the lives of those who lived in and around them.
They featured a lot of bicycles.
One of the more interesting things I saw in there were words and numbers written on the walls, sometimes a lot of them, sometimes just one. You can see one in this shot, actually, just above and to the right of the bicycle seat on the main bike.
Pamhule explained that they are essentially adverts which list what service is being offered and an associated phone number. They are often painted over, so you see patches of paint all over the place, often with a new word and number written over the top of them.
I had no idea what any of the words said, but I thought it was an interesting feature.
This is a scheduled post while I’m driving around Wales taking awesome photos.
