Posted: Thu Aug 28, 2008 3:02 am

I recently had a major problem with my 8500GT+946gmx (dual core). The problem had been dormant for 10months until a major crash on the weekend. I has put it down to vista (stupidly) and ended up wiping my entire drive to try and fix the problem. No success

It's a documented conflict and nvidia haven't resolved the conflict between intel chipsets and their video drivers yet. Instead of trying to stuff around with bios flashing (i really really tried, but CMOS won't accept a bios flash command when the file is on the HD, and i don't have a floppy -_-) I took the less-stress option and bought an ATI card - HD3450...and I love it! I realise how much I missed the extremely useful interface than radeon provides for upgrading, management etc (my 3GHz had/has radeon). And cost me seventy bucks only ( very serendiptous that I needed a PCI-E +DDR2, and found one less tha n 5 min walk from where i workd in the first store I rang)

Now...back to the game

(and spore being released here Sep-4.... ruh-roh ima need to never sleep)

So how did this ever work out?

In other news, I've been thinking of getting a Blu-Ray player. But since they mostly run about $380-$400 around here I considered just getting a PS3. I would have a Blu-Ray player and a game system all-in-one. Not that there are many games I would probably play on it, but it does have a few games I would be interested in.

So first of all, does anyone have any information or feedback on the PS3 Blu-Ray player they would care to offer? Good or bad I'm just looking for information right now. I've read a bit online but would like some feedback from people I know (well, sort of know).

Second, I haven't seen any PS3s in stores recently. Is there a shortage or something I'm not aware of? I was mostly looking at Costco (wholesale store - they usually have a nice PS3 bundle with a game, HDMI cable and Blu-Ray remote for it) to get a price idea, but I haven't seen any there in a few weeks. This past weekend we were out at various shops and I looked around and didn't see any in stock anywhere.

I've tried to Google information on a possible shortage, but everything I'm coming up with is from 2006 or 2007. Nothing current. So does anyone know anything about that?

Thanks for any information or help.

Dragon Quest Swords: Pretty, but fairly repetitive. Walk forward, waggle. Walk forward, waggle. You're better off playing Dragon Quest Joker instead.

Rayman Raving Rabbids: Wagglicious mini-games. Possibly fun when playing with multiple people, fairly pointless in single player. The first-person on-rails shooting segments are enjoyable though.

Link's Crossbow Training: Solid target practice game. Great spiritual successor to Duck Hunt.

Dragon Ball Budokai Tenkaichi 3: Too chaotic for my taste, plus special moves requiring large movements in battle is not a good idea.

Ikaruga: Interesting concept, but too hardcore for me.

Soul Calibur 2: Dime-a-dozen fighting game. If I can win the arcade mode first time round with button mashing I have severe doubts about the gameplay. Ok, not entirely button mashing. In the last phase of the final boss I found that forward + A + Y does some kind of thrusting attack that he was powerless against, resulting in a perfect. Try that against Bison on Street Fighter II (the only decent fighting game besides Smash Brothers I've found) and you'll get your ass kicked. Pass..

Your best bet would probably be to use a vector package such as Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw. Alternatively, you can use the pen tool in Photoshop. Just realise you're going to end up with a couple hundred layers for something of that complexity.
Yet another solution that's used by some webcomic artists is to sketch on paper, scan it in and ink and color with a tablet. That requires actual drawing skills though.
