This was the coolest place I could find on the very hot weekend that I visited Helsinki. By ‘cool’ I am referring to the temperature.
It’s part of the Suomenlinna sea fortress, but being old and of no use it simply sits there gathering water and fighting off the sun so that people like me can go in there to cool down and, it so happens, take a few photos.
It made me remember with fondness the ice caves that I visited in Slovakia the previous year, again in very hot weather so a dark underground cave full of ice was the perfect thing to cool me off. I think most people covered up in something warm and I walked around in a t-shirt.
You may refer me back to this post over the winter period when I am complaining that it’s too cold. I am simply never satisfied.
