Exit Here

Exit Here

This is the fifth and final image in my London underground mini-series. Thanks to everyone for all of your positive comments on this series throughout the week, I’m glad you like them.

After a long, hot, crammed, sweaty journey in rush hour I’m sure thousands of commuters are happy to see the stairs at the end of the journey which will take them up towards freedom and salvation. I intended this image to simply be evocative of that, however I can imagine that the shot, along with the title, may have parallels with leaving this world for the afterlife.

I guess I could have called it Stairway to Heaven instead?

The image itself was taken on a Sunday afternoon in Covent Garden…ironically one of the stations on the underground where you really don’t wish to take the stairs to the exit as they’re the equivalent of a 14 storey building. Most people just take the lift.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this week long mini-series, and that you have a great weekend ahead.

Great end to the underground mini series, I like the effect of the light to give the feeling of escaping back to the real world. It reminds me of the console game called Fallout 3 where you escape from the vault 101 near the beginning

I think ‘Exit Here’ is better than ‘Stairway to Heaven’ as a title as it leaves what you find out there to the imagination, although I do take your point about approaching the afterlife. In fact it has quite a cinematic feeling to it in as much as you know something is out there but the suspense is in not knowing quite what.

Sweet shot with the blown out light area. Really works. Love to see this in mono :)

Reminiscent of a sci-fi movie, I really like this staircase leading into the light of infinity. Nicely done, as there remains just enough detail on the other side of the light to draw you deeper into the image. Cool stuff, man.

Exit Here sums this one up beautifully. Reminds me a bit of 2001 Space Odyssey. Very different from the others – high key c/w the dark drama of the others. This has been a tremendous series. I’m sorry it’s ending.
