Morning Shard

A shot of The Shard in the early morning, with Tower Bridge to the immediate left, and a mist covered Canary Wharf in the background.

When complete in 2012, The Shard will be the tallest building in Europe – and it’s certainly viewable from most locations in London as it’s being built. I’m quite fascinated by it.

It’s rare that I’m up for the magic hour first thing in the morning, but I had been out all night taking photos from a few different rooftops and it was really nice to be able to get some daylight shots from such a location when 90% of the time I take night shots only. It wasn’t the best sunrise ever, but the light was still very good, the wind was extremely minimal and it was pleasantly warm.

  1. Awesome shot – looking forward to seeing some more rooftops.
I’m also pretty crap at getting up in the mornings, esp with the sunrise so early at the moment. Having said that the light generally wakes me at 4.30, but no way I’m getting out of bed at that hour!

  2. Excellent shot of an amazing location. I need to get a closer look at the Shard soon, I saw it the other evening as I drove home through Richmond Park, the scale of it is impressive to say the least

  3. Really cool shot Mike – great comp & I love the light/reflection off the building. Hopefully I can see this with my own eyes in a month or so!

Thanks very much :o) No criminal record (yet) as I haven’t committed any crimes to date. Also, and unrelated to photography, I’m currently undergoing a voluntary police vetting so that will show me if I do have an unknown record on myself.
